Norfolk, a port city, is an American city in the state of Virginia. The second largest city in Virginia, it is located on the Atlantic coast and is home to one of the main naval bases of the US Navy. Founded in 1682, rich in history, Norfolk is the cultural heart of Hampton Roads. It is surrounded by water and is built around several districts. Its logo is a siren symbolizing 300 years of maritime and naval history. The city is home to many museums such as the Chrysler Museum of Art, considered one of the top 20 museums in the United States and located in the Ghent District or the National Marine Center, the Nauticus which will let you discover aquariums, warships like the latest battleship built in the United States, the USS Wisconsin. Also visit the Hermitage Foundation Museum. Facing the Lafayette River, the residence houses a famous collection of Asian and Western art, bronzes, Persian rugs and numerous sculptures. Admire its fort, walk in its historic districts, look at its brick façades, its domes, its parks, its green spaces its botanical garden, and meet up on the seafront. Its beaches offer a magnificent view of the ocean and will allow you to discover fishing, sailing and surfing in the ocean and in Chesapeake Bay. It is next to the waterfront that you will also discover Point Park Town. Recently renovated this space is the place of many festivals during the summer months. It is full of fountains and sculptures in homage to Norfolk's naval history. The city also owns the Virginia Zoological Park, created in 1900. You can also discover aquariums, marine exhibitions and a weather station. The General Douglas MacArthur Memorial is located in the city's courthouse and dates from the 19th century. It houses the graves of the General and his wife, and his personal effects. Norfolk offers a multitude of cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants offering cuisine from around the world. You can also enjoy a cruise after dark. During the summer months the city hosts many dance and music festivals.
