Madison, the capital of the state of Wisconsin, is a vibrant city built on the tradition of the New World. It is best known for its Capitol and its famous university, one of the largest and most prestigious in the United States. If the name evokes more the famous dance created in the 60's as much as the twist, the hully gully or the pachanga, Madison is also a city located 235 kilometers from Chicago. This is America of picture books. A brightly white capitol, a lake surrounded by green lawns, a highly educated population employed in new technologies, bicycles circulating in vast avenues, making this the greenest city in the United States and the most pleasant to live in. Madison is all of those things. Add to that its importance during the Civil War, during which its fort served as a training camp for the northern army, now converted into a university, and you will obtain a prosperous city today at the forefront of progress. Its famous student parties also make it famous. One comes from far away to taste this American way of life so particular. A quality of life that is no longer to be denied and that is envious in all the neighbouring states, between Chicago and Minneapolis. This city whose center is an isthmus formed by the two beautiful round lakes of Mendota and Monona is dominated by one of the most beautiful official monuments of the United States, the State Capitol. But apart from these stuffy appearances, Madison is a relaxed and progressive city and it will be nice on Saturday mornings, going to the market all around the Capitol, one of the largest and most famous of the United States. The Wisconsin State Capitol, which no monument within several miles is allowed to pass, is State Street, a lively, six-block drive-through commercial street that extends to the heart of the University of Wisconsin campus. The Chazen Art Museum and its early 20th century works, University of Wisconsin Arboretum, Lake Monona Shoreline Run, Madison Children's Museum, interactive children's museum... The Capitol district is full of bars and restaurants with a young and trendy population. We can mention The Icon, the Porta Alba cafe, the Etoile and many others who enjoy the evening entertainment of this student town. During a stay in Madison, contacts will be made with students which will allow them to be invited to one of the many parties called Mifflin Street Block Party or State Street Halloween Party.
