Covering 23,000 square kilometres, the Republic of Djibouti is a state in the Horn of Africa, surrounded by Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia. Independent from France since 1977, this state of more than 800 000 inhabitants is characterized by a desert climate, arid and difficult to endure between May and September when the thermometer displays more than 35 degrees.
Its natural landscapes, on the condition of visiting them in relative sweetness from October to April, are however of all beauty. The country's opening on the Gulf of Tadjoura and the Gulf of Aden thus allows it to benefit from a very rich underwater fauna and certainly one of the most beautiful seas of the globe. Especially as the water temperature is always warm and pleasant. A stay in Djibouti is synonymous with a total change of scenery. The panoramas are indeed of all beauty there. Starting with the two salt lakes Assal and Abbé, hot spring, which are surrounded by lunar landscapes and bare. Some 80 kilometres north of Lake Assal, history lovers will also have the opportunity to discover a prehistoric site recently discovered. Located near the border with Ethiopia, the Bahlo site thus presents well preserved rock paintings but also a certain number of mounds covering graves, quite frequent on the territory of Djibouti. Leaving from this site, you can discover the Mabala Mountains on the north bank of the country and whose highest point is the Moussa Ali, which stretches to 2063 meters of altitude. At its feet lies the fossil forest of Day, an oasis which culminates at an altitude of some 1500 metres and which reveals a vegetation cover composed of junipers, wild olive trees, box trees and acacias. This exceptional ecosystem also shows hundreds of birds including the Djibouti Francolin, which is unique in the world. The conservation of flora and fauna is ensured in this place by the fog and clouds that give it total protection. During your holidays in Djibouti, you can also visit the eponymous city and capital of the country of the same name. But beware, misery, delinquency and dependence on khat, this herb that the inhabitants chew at length for its euphoric effects, are at the origin of a certain number of thieves and European tourists can be targeted. In the city centre, we'd probably prefer to go a little further. About ten kilometres away by all-terrain vehicles, you will be able to discover the island of Ouaramous which is also called Turtle Island, a consequence of the bones and shells of these animals which are present there. Beautiful beaches are also accessible near the capital and in particular the fine sandy beach of Dorâlé, located about ten kilometres from Djibouti city. It presents a small peculiarity: that of sheltering herds of camels and very numerous birds. A little further away, about twenty kilometres from the capital, the beach of Khôr-Ambâdo is deserved. To reach it, it is necessary to take a difficult track of 7 kilometers equipped with a water point: this one gathers not only wild animals but also goats, sheep and dromedaries. The obstacles are nevertheless worth the candle: after this journey, the beach of Khôr-Ambâdo is revealed, lined with volcanic rocks. The water is at the height of the landscape and gives to see unforgettable fish species. And if it was still necessary to convince of the tourist potential of Djibouti, the Moucha and Mascali islands, located one hour away from the capital, are decorated with mangroves and mangroves. For divers, morays, manta rays, turtles or whale sharks inhabit the seabed of these two islands.

Djibouti is a country rather well served by airlines. At present, four of them operate the Paris-Djibouti-Paris route: Air France once a week and Daallo Airlines, a Somali carrier. Twice a week, Air Yemenia makes one stopover in Sana'a while Ethiopian Airlines makes one stopover in Addis Ababa and operates four weekly flights.

Djibouti cuisine is at the crossroads of many African cuisines. During your holidays, you will be able to taste Ethiopian specialities in the image of the watt, the traditional dish of the country, or Yemeni dishes, most often based on fish or seafood. Chawarmas, kebab meat sandwiches, samoussas, vegetable or meat doughnuts, or even an omelette made of tomatoes, onions and meat are also part of the country's traditional cuisine. As for drinks, fruit juices are a must.
