Scarborough is a coastal town in Yorkshire in England overlooking the North Sea. It is famous for its thermal waters which have been known for their benefits since 1626 and especially for hypochondriacs. The English appreciate this seaside resort where they can practice water sports such as sailing or surfing. However for the unaccustomed, the North Sea is very cold! Pretty little beach houses in various colours make the charm of the coast. Like most tourists, you will certainly start by visiting the old town which is directly on the seafront with the port protected by a tongue of land that juts out into the sea. The houses are aligned and offer an unobstructed view of the sea and what about the magnificent thermal building which, after having undergone transformations and renovation, now hosts conferences. The new town was built on the cliffs that line the coast and protects it from the onslaught of the sea. As you stroll through the city centre, you will notice the many spa centres and hotels for those taking the waters. To recharge your batteries, several parks and gardens are scattered throughout the city. Shopping enthusiasts will take refuge in the shops which are much cheaper than in London, several antique dealers have settled in the city centre. Art lovers will not be able to miss the Scarborough Art Gallery which exhibits beautiful paintings by famous painters such as Atkinson Grimshaw or Ernest Dade in a complex whose architecture will not leave you insensitive. And finally a small tour to the church Ste Mary and its cemetery where Anne Brontë is buried. Children will appreciate it if you take them to the Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary where they can discover marine life or the North Yorkshire Moors which is a park where the scenery is beautiful, the natives like to meet in this familiar place around a picnic.
