Cyprus is a beautiful southern country where history and culture mingle, a splendid climate throughout the year and contrasting nature where mountains, forests and coastline cohabit harmoniously. L'île de l'amour , named after the Greek goddess Aphrodite, will welcome you for the duration of a stay under the sign of charm and hospitality.

The island of Cyprus is an island country located in the south-eastern Mediterranean, close to the coasts of the Middle East. It is a European country that belongs geologically to Asia. Due to its strategic geographical location and natural resources Cyprus has experienced many invasions that still mark the country today in many ways. The most flagrant date of the split of the island in 1974 following the Turkish invasion which divided Cyprus in two with a northern part under Turkish control and a southern part controlled by the Greek Cypriots.

Its capital Nicosia, nicknamed Berlin of the Mediterranean , is the most populous city with nearly 166 500 inhabitants on the Greek side and 39 500 on the Turkish side. Although this may suggest that communities are mixing, in reality it is not. So traveling to Cyprus is like visiting two distinct countries separated by the green line . The latter is not symbolic and is not easily crossed. You will therefore have to choose the north or the south for your holidays but whatever your choice you will be welcomed with open arms by a population in the sense of legendary hospitality. Because of its environment and wealth, the south attracts more tourists and therefore has more hotels and restaurants.

Despite this delicate situation Cyprus remains a popular holiday destination due to its exciting history which has retained influences from Europe and the Middle East. On the island one does not know where to go first so much the place abounds in wonders. You will be immersed in a soothing nature where Crusader castles, old monasteries, secular vineyards, Roman sites... Nature lovers will be able to bask in the sun on one of the many sandy beaches or pebbles on the island or go hiking in the pine forests or in one of the mountain resorts.

The Mediterranean climate of Cyprus allows the island to enjoy hot and dry summers ! Winter has nothing to envy it since its temperatures are mild and temperate enough. The weather is almost never rainy or cold which allows swimming from April to October. This enchanting climate offers the island the possibility of welcoming visitors throughout the year even if summer is to be avoided if possible because of its high temperatures.

Due to the multiple invasions, Cyprus can count on a rather varied and ancient heritage. Thus the island shelters several archaeological sites which can go back to the Neolithic period. Many remains such as castles, chapels, monasteries, cathedrals or fortifications sometimes inscribed on UNESCO's Heritage List bear witness to the past presence of the Greeks, Romans, Franks and British.

In addition to its mountains and forests, Cyprus has many beautiful beaches with exceptional sunshine from spring onwards. The turquoise sea reaches a minimum temperature of 22° which calls for swimming and relaxation. In addition, the European Union places the island at the top of the list of member countries for the cleanliness of its bathing waters. The beaches, always very well maintained, can be of fine sand even if in general they are rather covered with pebbles.

Cyprus is a multifaceted island. Whether it is its northern or southern part, you will be enchanted by the wonders it shelters. Everywhere you will find only treasures and benevolence from the local population.

Art and culture in Cyprus
Very attached to tradition, the island organizes many events paying tribute to it. Every year, before Greek Orthodox Easter, there is, for example, the great carnival gathering in Cyprus which lasts fifty days. The Kataklysmos, feast of the flood echoing the biblical episode of Noah's Ark, falls on Whit Monday. Spread over five days and celebrated in all coastal cities, though mainly in Larnaka, the Kataklysmos gives way to a procession to the sea where participants sprinkle water from head to toe. In addition to this event, sports competitions and traditional singing and dancing events take place.
