Pittsburgh is said to be the only city with an "entrance". In fact, it is by a single road, at the exit of the long tunnel of Fort Pitt that one reaches directly downtown. Nicknamed the "golden triangle", it lies at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, which meet here to form Ohio. Pittsburgh is located in western Pennsylvania, in the northeastern United States. At the crossroads of several valleys, Pittsburgh is the second steepest city in the United States, just after San Francisco. It is traversed by "inclines", a kind of tramway pulled by cables and its residential areas which extend on slopes are often inaccessible by car during winter. Winters that can be severe with heavy snowfalls while summers are hot and humid. With rainy springs, autumn is the most pleasant season to stay in the city. In a very industrial state of Pennsylvania, itself for a long time a centre of the world's steel industry and railways, Pittsburgh is today a green city with a strong ecological focus and recycled in the fields of health, education and new technologies. A modern and offbeat metropolis, a model of reconversion in the image of the very lively district of Strip District where old factories and warehouses have become lofts and high-end residences. Between its historic monuments and modern skyscrapers, its 446 bridges and also its churches, Pittsburgh's architecture is considered one of the most beautiful in the United States. Favoured by a real cultural policy, Pittsburg also has a rich artistic life. It is more particularly the cradle of pop culture. In its museums, including the Andy Warhol museum, in its parks, on every street corner, in Pittsburgh, pop art is everywhere. The walking tour winds through four districts of Pittsburgh, leads to the discovery of remarkable works of art and allows you to learn a lot about the city and its history. In the cradle of pop-art, a visit to the emblematic Andy Warhol Museum is of course a must. More unusual is the Big Mac Restaurant Museum in Mc Donald's, where you can find, among other things, the world's largest statue of the famous sandwich. To get out, it's in the South Side neighbourhood, with its Victorian architecture. There are many restaurants and bars (especially on the east side of Carton Street) but also theatres, art galleries and cinemas. The area is also ideal for trendy shopping with its vintage boutiques and antique department stores.
