In the county of Maricopa in Arizona, in the southwestern United States, Mesa is considered as a suburban city of Phoenix which sees its population increase every year, it counts at present approximately 450 000 inhabitants. Although the city itself was not founded until 1878, the area was inhabited by the Hohokam, some 2000 years before and are at the origin of the current canals. The development of these canals shows that these people were forerunners as architects. There was not much to see in Mesa, some buildings and shops in the city centre, the rest being houses. An effort has however just been made with the Mesa Arts Center, very modern architecture in an alley lined with palm trees and which includes 4 theatres, art galleries, and several theatres. Its goal is not only to welcome the population of Mesa but also that of Phoenix which is only 32 km away. Nearby, shops have taken advantage of the situation to set up shops such as antique shops, fashion boutiques, restaurants and others. The city was originally founded by the Mormons, and whether you adhere to their belief or not, you can nevertheless visit the LDS Arizona Mesa Temple which deserves a visit if only for its grandiose architecture and its landscaped environment with pond and green lawns. But the must to make is to leave Mesa and to walk in the desert places on horseback with a guide, obviously, exit that you can also make on foot or by mountain bike by following the marked out paths but the ride on horseback remains mythical, especially for the amateurs of western! Several museums in the heart of the city pay homage to the history of the region and help to better understand the mentalities of the country. For outdoor enthusiasts who want to combine sport and pleasure, Riverview Golf is the perfect place to try their hand at this sport and insiders will have the opportunity to practice on a magnificent green. If the city lacks dynamism during the day, this is not the case in the evenings when the streets come to life, but they may seem dull for partygoers. Don't expect gourmet cuisine in the city's restaurants.
