Hialeah is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area and is located in a large meadow between Biscayne Bay and the Everglades. The origin of the name of the city is most often attributed to the Muskogee people. Hialeah would be composed of Haiyakpo (meadow) and hili (pretty), Hialeah would then mean pretty meadow. Hialeah ( pronounce Jaialía) proudly bears her name and her colours in a standard. It is true that its semantic origin goes back to the first inhabitants of Miami, the Calusa Indians whose language described the place as "beautiful valley". Today, this commune in the north of the Miami-Dade agglomeration plunges us into Hispanic territory. 90% of its inhabitants are of Latin origin and Spanish flows into the DNA of this mixed neighbourhood in the making. Carlos Fernández, mayor of Hialeah and pioneer of his rebirth, acknowledges that "if for a long time his neighbourhood was bad and peripheral for the Miami people", "he is now making a name for himself on the emerging artistic scene". Wishing to take advantage of its immense walls, its abandoned warehouses and the remains of its industrial decor, the mayor of the city launched last year the inauguration of Leah, a new arty area where graffiti artists and creators from around the world can express their art. Surfing on the appeal of Street Art to the public and the world's greatest collectors, Leah should soon be much more than a name. According to the United States Census Bureau, the population of Hialeah in 2004 was 224,522, the fifth largest city in Florida. A large majority of this population is of Spanish-speaking origin. Hialeah is home to the world centre of Santeria, Telemundo's headquarters and a large production centre in Orangina. Hialeah is one of the densest cities without skyscrapers.
