The beauty of its natural landscapes, the richness of its fauna and culture give Uganda its nickname Pearl of Africa. With its mosaic of tribes, this country is a cultural melting pot. Straddling Ecuador, Uganda lies at the heart of Africa's great lakes, surrounded by three of them: Lake Edward, Lake Albert and the famous Lake Victoria. A large part of the territory is covered with water, rivers, streams and lakes. In the centre of the country, its capital Kampala takes its name from a species of antelope called Impala found in the region. Lake Victoria remains one of the country's main attractions thanks in particular to the Ssese Islands. There are 84 of them of unequal sizes. On the island of Bugala, the most important, there is a wide variety of hotels, beautiful beaches and many activities such as fishing, bird watching and water sports. The second island is Bukasa where you can observe the real life of the local fishermen. The western part of the country is that of the great national parks and nature reserves: the savannah of Queen Elisabeth National Park where one can cross buffaloes and elephants the impenetrable forest of the Bwindi, refuge of the silverback gorillas ; the snow-covered peaks of the Ruwenzori mountains, nicknamed the mounts of the moon... An escapade to the east of the country leads to the sources of the Nile. The legendary African river flows into Lake Victoria near the town of Jinja. The ideal starting point for white water rafting. In the north of the country, situated 50 km upstream from the mouth of the Nile Victoria, the Murchinson Falls, which cause the river to roar, 43 km below by a natural bottleneck less than 10 metres wide, are impressive. The best time to visit Uganda is the dry season, from December to March and June to September. The rainy season, from October to November and April to May, does not really affect tourist conditions in Uganda because roads remain in good condition and temperatures are stable throughout the year. The various national parks scattered throughout Uganda abound in abundant and varied fauna. Here, the luxuriant vegetation, the lakes, the plains are particularly preserved. Uganda is a country close to its true nature. The pearl of Africa is sometimes considered as a country spoiled by nature. Tourism in Uganda can also be an opportunity for meetings and exchanges of culture, crafts, traditional, musical... Uganda is the meeting point of East Africa's savannahs with West Africa's jungles. In this country, lions can be seen roaming the plains in the morning and following chimpanzees in the undergrowth in the afternoon; the next day, sailing on tropical waters teeming with hippos and crocodiles before leaving to meet gorillas in the mist. Uganda is also home to over 1,000 bird species, some endemic.

Art and culture in Uganda
Uganda has a wide range of handicrafts, ranging from basketry, carpets, ceramics and pottery, beads, textiles and hand-woven products to toys, jewellery, bags, leather goods, batik and wood products. These items are produced in all districts and regions, using local raw materials and limited edition tribal ornaments based on culture, history and traditions. The most beautiful material used for Ugandan crafts is bark cloth. A purely vegetable fibre with a large selection of the most natural and diversified colours.
