Tourism in the Marianas Islands
Saipan, located 200 km north of Guam Island, is both the capital and the largest island of the Northern Mariana Islands. It is renowned for its exceptional diving sites, such as Naftan, particularly known for the unique visibility of its waters and its outstanding underwater scenery. We will also explore "The Grotto", a splendid cave connected to the sea by underwater tunnels. The cliffs of Laderan Banadero ("the cliff of suicide") and Puntan Sabaneta ("the Banzai cliff") will delight the visitor with their unique views, as will Mount Tapochau, the highest point of Saipan, offering a 360° panorama of the island. History buffs will only have to set off to discover the Banadero Caves, one of the last command posts of the Second World War, where tanks, cannons and other period relics can be seen. They can also take the Marpi Pathway Road and admire the memorials in honour of soldiers and families who were victims of the Second World War. The CNMI Museum of History and Culture, which traces the customs and history of the archipelago, also deserves a look. Nature lovers will not hesitate to visit the island's many botanical gardens, such as Inarajan Shore or Nano Fall in Agat, to observe unique plant specimens. To the south of the archipelago, near the island of Guam, is the island of Rota, known for its rich flora and fauna, where thousands of birds inhabit the Sagua'gaga Seabird Sanctuary. Through the natural and botanical path of Taisacana, visitors can observe dozens of native plant species. Finally, lovers of idleness will only have to relax in the sun on the island of Managaha, which overlooks a splendid lagoon, also famous for its diving site. Festivities Among the major dates in the calendar of the Mariana Islands is the Festival des Arts du Flamboyant in Saipan in June, during the flowering of tropical trees. The festival focuses on local crafts and art creations. The Color of the World Festival then opens the ball on the island of Guam in July, where dancers and musicians happy with their body and sound, myths and legends. In August the International Jazz Festival is held, bringing together virtuosos from all over the world.
