Central African state, Rwanda shares its borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west, Uganda in the north, Tanzania in the east and Burundi in the south.

Located in the centre of the country, Kigali, the capital is a port city in full mutation whose colonial architecture tends to give way to a more contemporary style. Among the most visited religious monuments are the Cathedral of Saint Michael, the Church of the Holy Family or the Masjid Medina Mosque with a magnificent golden dome overlooking the ocean. Strongly marked by the Rwandan genocide, the city has a few places of memory that cannot be ignored, such as the Gisozi Memorial where many victims were buried. Not far away, the Meditation Garden is a place of meditation for parents and visitors. As for museums, Kigali houses the Natural History Museum housed in the home of Richard Kandt, founder of the city then president of the country from 1907. The place is an opportunity to discover the country's rich ecosystem. The Museum of the Second Republic returns to the unexplained death of Habyarimana, the first president.

To the southwest of Kigali, Butare represents a veritable green setting and remains famous for containing the Museum of Traditions in which art lovers will no doubt discover the most beautiful pieces of Rwandan art from the period of origins to that of the Republic. You can admire traditional huts and tools of everyday life.

Rwanda is also known for its natural wealth and has some exceptional sites. One of these is the Volcanoes National Park, in the north of the country, which makes it possible to discover the mountain gorillas which are only a few hundred throughout the world. Kagera National Park, further east, is made up of several lakes where zebras, buffaloes and rhinos live together. Endowed with a splendid archipelago, the lake of Kivu will attract the amateurs of swimming and water sports with its 2650m2.

Festivities
Easter, Assumption, All Saints' Day and Christmas correspond to the four great Christian feasts celebrated in Rwanda. Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha according to the lunar calendar. A few days after the national holiday on 1 July, Independence Day is celebrated on 4 July. In August the harvest festival is in the spotlight, giving families the opportunity to gather around a traditional meal.
