This generic term from Micronesia actually covers a huge area of over 2.4 million km2 in the North and Central Pacific, located between Ecuador and the Tropic of Cancer. Micronesia comprises several nations: the Republic of Palau in the West, the Federated States of Micronesia in the Centre-South (Yap, Chuuk, Kosrae and Pohnpei), the Republic of the Marshall Islands in the East, and the Mariana Islands archipelago in the North. The latter archipelago is part of the American Commonwealth, and also includes Guam, which itself enjoys a separate status as an American Territory.
