Jordan, a land of colours and scents, reflects all the magic of the East. It opens the doors of the Arab world to you with its hookahs, tea ceremonies, mosques and camel rides, the time of a stay placed under the sign of discovery and the pleasure of the senses.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, headed by King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, is a young country that gained independence from the British administration quite recently, in 1946. Jordan is a small landlocked country between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea. Yet Jordan is far from being a country of water because of its landscape, 80% of which is desert. The country has however some seaside resorts where it is good to recharge one's batteries.

Bordered to the north by Syria and Iraq, to the south by Saudi Arabia and to the west by Israel Jordan is an Arab country of the Middle East. Despite its small size, it can rely on three large regions: to the west, the Jordan Valley, further east, the plateaus of Transjordan and increasingly to the east, the desert, which is mainly rocky.

Jordan is a real crossroads of civilizations. Each city seems to have its own history. The road of kings, to discover with a car rental in Jordan It allows you to go in front of magnificent landscapes (Mount Nebo, ruins of the Masheronte, Qasr al-Meshneque hill...) but also sites of incomparable beauty like the medieval city of Kerak or Petra the capital of the ancient Nanabatean people which abounds in archaeological wonders.

The city of Jerash, built on a Greco-Roman site is rich with a beautiful heritage with its beautiful triumphal arch, its forum, its huge baths and its temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis. The desert of Wadi Rum is also unique and will enchant you in the same way as T.E Lawrence, thanks in particular to its sand dunes and its canyons with shimmering colors.

For your hotel stay in Jordan you will enjoy a Mediterranean climate, dry in the north and desert in the south. If the temperatures are pleasant (even torrid near both seas) in spring and summer, in winter it is a whole other story! Spring (although there are a few thunderstorms) and autumn are the best times to visit. The weather will be much milder and therefore more pleasant to discover the country.

Although Jordanians are essentially sedentary, there are still a few nomadic tribes that roam the country. Funnily enough, about a quarter of the population is Bedouin. On your way to Petra you will meet Bedouin families, who often stop in its caves and some have even settled there for good.

The Bedouins live in fairly rudimentary ways in tents made of goat hair dyed black. If some have been forced by the time and politics of the sedentary government, others continue their paths by still living on livestock and barter. Feel free to approach their camp and chat with them. The Bedouins are very hospitable and will certainly propose you to share a moment around a mint tea.

Jordan offers its visitors many excursions to go in front of this people: night in a camp, camel ride, tea ritual... Everything is done to change your scenery. Jordan is an essential stage for any believer undertaking a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Close to Israel and its religious influence, cradle of the Judeo-Christian tradition, Jordan commemorates Moses, who died on Mount Nebo, John the Baptist who baptized Jesus, Elijah the prophet, originally from Gilead. References to the Old and New Testaments (with the Ammonites or Edomites) are also very numerous. Breaking the image of a Middle East where tensions and violence are omnipresent, Jordan is one of the most hospitable countries. Its inhabitants, sedentary or nomads, will be pleased to make you discover their culture and their history. As a country of customs and traditions, Jordan makes it a point of honour to respect certain rules of good manners that Westerners must also apply. For example, the left hand used for the toilet cannot be used to greet. If you must eat with your fingers, use only your right hand.

Art and culture in Jordan
Jordan is a young country that loves parties and festivals! Throughout the summer, events are held in the main cities. In July you can attend the Jerash Culture and Arts Festival. One month later, the Festival de Fuheis and the Festival de la culture et des arts d'Azraq took place.
