Richmond Hill is a municipality in Ontario, Canada. Richmond Hill's growth in his early days was closely linked to the development of Yonge Street, proposed by John Graves Simcoe, the first governor of Upper Canada, as a military street. Later, farmers from villages north of Richmond Hill took Yonge Street to Toronto for a trade fair. Richmond Hill is located in the Greater Toronto region. Richmond Hill's official motto is In the Rose I Blossom. At the beginning of the 20th century, Richmond Hill was the most important rose-growing area in Canada. Recently, the motto "A bit northwards, a bit nicer" was also used. This unofficial motto suggests that Richmond Hill, north of the provincial capital (Toronto), is somewhat more desirable than the latter for reasons of quality of life.
