Tirana is the capital of Albania, the city is located about 110 meters above sea level, along the valley of the river Ishem, between Mount Dajti to the east, the hills of Krraba Sauk to the south, and those of Vaqarr and Yzberisht to the west and the Kamza hills to the north. Tirana is the largest city in Albania, has almost 800,000 inhabitants, its population represents more than 30% of the total population of the country. Tirana is also the main political, commercial, industrial (textile, food, cement, mechanical, chemical and footwear) and cultural center of Albania..A land of inaccessible mountains where, until recently, omerta, vendetta and codes of honour reigned. Tirana does not blame her head of state for this: an oversized statue is dedicated to her.Still in the tradition of hero worship, the statue of the unknown partisan in memory of the Albanians who died fighting fascinates him during the Second World War. But the supreme honour is returned to Skanderbeg, the national hero who delivered Albania from the yoke of the Ottomans. The large square of Tirana, which opens onto the boulevard Dëshmorët e Kombi - the local Elysian fields -, is dedicated to him, dominated by the statue of the great man.The Grand'place Skanderbeg with its big wheel and the statue of Skanderbeg.
