Hafar Al-Batin is a city in Saudi Arabia in the Eastern Province. 430 km north of Riyadh, 94.2 km from the Kuwaiti border and about 74.3 km from the Iraqi border. The city is located in the dry valley of Oued al-Batin, which is part of the longest valley of Oued Al-Rummah (now dry), which leads to Medina and once emptied into the Persian Gulf. 1 hour by plane from Riyadh, in the north-east of the country, about 100 km from the Iraqi and Kuwaiti border. Discovery of an active city (500.000 inhabitants) with a strong agricultural sector. The local souk is quite interesting, it's really a market with a little bit of everything, some more for women, focused housework (with western brands), a lot of equipment for Bedouin tents, and junk puck stands. The region is very active whether camels, goats, sheep. In the first century of the Hegira, in 638 AD, Hafar Al-Batin was just a road in the desert, crossed by Muslim pilgrims, without any possible water supply. During the reign of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan (644 AD - 656 AD), the pilgrims were heard by Abu Musa al-Asha'ari, a companion of the Prophet Mohammed: new wells were dug along this road in the Al-Batin valley. The name Hafar Al-Batin is derived from what means "the hole of the Al-Batin Valley".
