International shipping to 244 countries worldwide requires some real expertise and experience especially when shipping luxury French chocolate gifts. Several issues need to be addressed seriously such as the shipping costs, the packing, the tracking, international customs and most importantly: making sure that your gift arrives on time and in perfect condition.
If you use the local postal service such as the USPS in the US or the French Postal Service in France for shipping internationally, your package may take several weeks before it is delivered abroad - and tracking (when available) will be inaccurate at best. The only option is private international shipping carriers such as DHL, FedEx or UPS. However, such carriers can be very expensive. We have negotiated the best shipping rates in the world with DHL because we ship thousands of packages worldwide each year. We do not make money on shipping costs - it is a 100% pass-through charge.
Upon receipt of your order, you will receive a unique tracking number with a tracking link allowing you to check the progress of your gift at any time. This is standard procedure when shopping online. However, zChocolat will go one step further and provide pro-active tracking to keep you informed via email of the progress of your international gift each step of the way until final delivery. A delivery receipt is emailed to your attention within 3 hours of delivery and includes the name of the consignee as well as the local time of delivery.
Packing for International Shipping
50% of all packages use our international summer packaging which guarantees that your chocolates arrive in perfect condition anywhere in the world. This packaging uses insulated containers and refrigerant packs to maintain an interior temperature between 15°C and 20°C (59°F and 67°F) until delivery, regardless of the outside weather and temperature. Upon review of your order, a customer service representative will decide to use our summer packaging based on your international recipient's local weather and temperature. There is no action required on your part and this service is complimentary :).
Dealing with Local Customs Worldwide
When shipping internationally we may have to deal with local customs and eventually pay a customs fee. Since we are shipping from Europe, you will not have to pay custom duties in all European Countries nor will you have to pay duties in the United States since we have an office there and pay it on your behalf. For all other countries, duties may be applicable - or not - it varies by country. In any case we always make absolutely certain that your gift recipient never has to pay taxes upon delivery. Tips When Shipping Internationally
Provide a day-time address otherwise the DHL driver will leave a notice of attempted delivery and ask your recipient to contact DHL to reschedule delivery. Also provide a local phone number: very convenient if there is any issue with the international delivery address - and saves time. Please note that if your order is received before noon (midday) GMT, your gift basket ships the same day, otherwise, it ships the next business day.
